W&A Farm! U-pick Strawberries!

One thing I love about Vancouver is that there are many U-pick farms in the area.  For once, you can do something else other than clubbing, drinking, or other unhealthy activities with you friends!  You can go out in the sun, enjoy the fresh air and pick away the sweet strawberries!

Cho went to pick cherries and blueberries before.  She didn't like picking the 2 fruits.  Not that they tasted bad or anything.  Just that if you pick cherries, you need to be sure you have enough rest the night before as you will need to climb up and down from the ladder to pick the cherries from the trees/tall bushes.  As for blueberries, she can't really tell which ones are sweet and which ones are not.  At the end of the day, she can end up with sour blueberries.  As the blueberries bushes are tall, around the height of an adult (well, 1.6 meter...to me it's adult height...I am not that tall), spiders webs and bugs will probably get in your face.  If you don't like that, blueberries may not be the best thing to pick.

Strawberries, in our opinion, is the easier and funnest to pick.  The bushes are low so you can see clearly and bugs won't be all over your face. You can totally tell what's ripe and whats not by the color of the fruit.  So, we searched online and found this W&A Farm on Westminster and No.8 in Richmond.  It's quite easy to locate.  It's huge!  You don't need to pay any entry fee.  Just remember to bring your own basket for the fruits.  If you really don't have a basket, it's also ok.  You can buy one from them on the spot.

The farm is quite big!  So don't worry about not finding any strawberries.  It's so much fun walking around looking for strawberries.  They were all so red and delicious-looking.  I couldn't stop picking.  After you finish picking, you can weigh it at this shack/stall at the entrance and the guy will charge you $2CDN/pound.  You have to pay a minimum of $6.

Don't they just look sweet and scream "PICK MEEEEEEEEEEEEE!"

Me being too overly excited in picking, I ended up with 11.5 pounds!!!!  I've had them for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks.  I felt like I was going to have red poop.  I didn't want to look at my poop to confirm though.

As much as I want to go back to pick again, I think I'll need a rest from strawberries for now.

You can drive there and they have a little parking lot~
W&A Farm is point B in the list "Places Part 1" on the map.

  1. I love picking strawberries! We have a few plants at my house, but I have to go out everyday so the bunnies don't beat me to them! I've never gone out to a farm, though. It sounds like a lot of fun and you got a TON! They all look so yummy!
