A day of food and claw machines in Nanshan - Shenzhen, China

Our weekend day trip to Shenzhen this time is to test out how accessible Shenzhen is for people on wheelchairs.  Is it possible to have a good time in Shenzhen for someone that can barely walk?  My travel buddy fractured her ankle and teared her tendon during our trip in Taiwan.  It would take her months before she can completely heal.  It has been almost 2 months since the injury and she can manage to walk around  2000 steps a day with the help of crutches and a cast.

It is too boring to stay home all the time.   Needed to go out for some air.  Hence,  went to Shenzhen.
One of the main concern we had was whether the taxis in Shenzhen have a big enough trunk for a wheelchair.  Turns out they all have enough space for a foldable wheelchair.  The drivers didn't get out of the car to help us put the wheelchair in the trunk though.  Probably because one of us were perfectly healthy to do so.  No extra charge for wheelchair in trunk.

Took the taxi to Fuego (Eat 18).  Ramps aren't always available in Shenzhen, so must be able to get up and walk at least 5 steps in enter the restaurant.  The staffs were really kind to help my buddy walk in and let us sit near the entrance so we didn't have to move around much.

Started the day with latte.  Much needed caffeine to wake up.

Got ourselves a lamb skewers.  Really big ones.  Really good.

Then a pasta cooked to al dente.  Really good.  We didn't order much, so we could save some appetite for more food later.  Really live this small restaurant that doesn't make western food taste like Chinese food.

At G&G Creativity Community where Fuego is at, there are a few cafes just next door.  Eggers (Eat 21) is one of them.  It's a food truck style cafe with some outdoor seatings.

Was stopped by their poster for a beef sandwich.

It would be a good place to chill if it's a cool sunny day.  I can't imagine eating here on hot day.  Might as well die.

Ordered the goulash sandwich and pancake and egg sandwich.  Both look delicious already.

Pancakes were freshly made.  At first I thought it would just be 2 pieces of pancakes with a fried egg in between.

Turns out there are 3 pieces of pancakes and on the bottom layer is a piece of sausage.

Add butter and syrup. Sweet and savory.

The packaging of the goulash sandwich looks great.

Really tender beef.  Full of flavors.

There is a cat that lives at Eggers. Super friendly cat that loves human attention.

The kitty loves human so much that it would just climb on random strangers begging for food.

It was a weekend and on this particular weekend, there was a pop up market.  Pretty small market though.

We did buy a really cute hair clip.

Then we took the subway to Houhai Station.  I'd have to say it isn't easy to take the subway for someone that can't walk at all.  Needed to be able to walk a few steps to make life easier.  Elevator to get down the station is rare.  We decided to just walk a step onto the escalator and hope for the best of not falling.  Getting on the train from the platform would be much more troublesome if travelling alone and unable to walk, as we would have to inform the staff so they would need to layout a little bridge between the platform and the train for wheelchairs to get in.  Instead of doing that, again, we just walk/hop a step onto the train.

Saw this amazing looking bakery/cafe call Cosmetique De Madeleine (Eat 22).  The place packed with people.  The shelves were half empty with all the customers inside buying out everything.

The staffs were restocking nonstop though.

Love food that looks and tastes good.

There is another bakery call Platules (Eat 23) near buy.  Smells so good and tastes so good as well.  Soft and fluffy pastries.

The main purpose of going to Houhai is for all the claw machines there.  Actually, no matter where we go in Shenzhen, there are always claw machines here and there.

Spent around CNY 180 for these.  Some people asks why play at claw machines?  What's the use of having so many plushies at home?  Well, there really isn't much use for plushies.  We just enjoyed the process of winning one.  End up selling most of the plushies we get.

Ended the day at Apo Beef Brisket 西關老阿婆·牛腩牛雜煲(來福士店)(Eat 24).  Decided to eat there thinking it would be similar to the beef brisket and innards in Hong Kong where you would actually get big pieces of beef to fill your stomach.  Turns out this place is just selling a beef soup made with some pieces of brisket and innards for hotpot.  The actually thing looks completed different than pictures on their menu.

Only ordered a side of duck blood to go with the pot thinking the pot would actually be enough to fill our stomachs.

Also ordered grilled eggplant with egg.  Taste just like how you would imagine eggplant to be.  Nothing special.

Also got a beef noodle.  The place is stingy about beef.  Only tiny tiny bits of beef in the dish.

After dinner, they gave us a thank you gift.

Inside is two pieces of sweetened dried fruit.

After eating, my hair and clothes all smell like hotpot.  Disgusting.  Won't ever go again.

This time to Shenzhen, got stopped by their makeup store Colorist.  There were so many brands available.  Most of them are Chinese brands.  Have been skeptical about Chinese makeup.  Got eye glitter for CNY 30.  A brand call Puca.  The packaging is questionable.

Got color #02.

The actual bottle looks normal though.

Like that they have a silicon brush though.

Clear jelly base with little gold specks.  Really glittery.  Hope it doesn't contain anything harmful and I won't get irritated with it.
