Early Summer in Nanshan, Shenzhen

It's been a while since we last crossed the border to mainland China.  Visiting again to check out some of the new pop ups.  First stop is The mixc mall 深圳湾万象城 (Shop 6).  They have a new pop up set up with a theme of blue and white.  Pretty for the summer.

There are several coffee and sweets shop there for people to chill and enjoy.  Not really for me though.  too hot to enjoy outside.

I was only able to stay outside for about 15 minutes in the hot and humid weather of Shenzhen.

Headed quickly into their indoor part of the mall.  At B1, there are quite a few restaurants.  Decided to eat at Lokal, mainly because there wasn't a line up.

Ordered spaghetti Bolognese.  To be honest, it doesn't look appetizing and taste is pretty average.  A little on the soup side.

Then a beef taco.  Whatever they marinated the beef with, it tasted very much like Chinese food.  Nonetheless, it's a pretty good taco.  Prefer it way more than the pasta.

Then lemon tea. I really don't like the China style lemon tea.  All taste like air freshener.

For desserts, we went to the newly opened 九十葉JiuShiYe ice cream shop that specializes in matcha.

Not cheap and certainly a complicated menu.  Need to calculate which flavor to go with which flavor.

Super long line up.  But it moves fast.

There are 5 levels of matcha.  The 5th level with the highest concentration of matcha.  No. 3 is in the middle, more on the milky side.  So, I went for the No. 5 match and paired it with hojicha.  Wanted to get No. 5 alone but the staff kept warning me that if only get a cup entirely of no.5, I need to pay extra.  At the same time, he won't let me pay extra and force me to pair it with another flavor that is not no. 4....apparently, pairing 4, 5 and pistachio is not allow.  Order those 3 flavors alone is not allowed.  So many rules.

Really creamy.  Love the strong matcha flavor.

Also got one with pistachio.  It is the best tasting pistachio ice cream I've ever had.

2 cups of ice cream comes to 88 CNY.

And there is a fancy bread shop nearby.  78CNY for half a loaf of bread.

Expensive.  But bought half a loaf to try anyways.

The nearest train station is Houhai Station and only found out this time that the B1 floor of 萬象天地 The Mixc is connected to the station.  Nice to not have to walk under the summer sun.

Took the subway to Jintian Station to Shenzhen FuEr Building 深圳市妇儿大厦 (See 16) to check out the exhibition about autism.  It's a building dedicated for kids activities.  Lots of loud kids running around..

Also many young girls taking selfies with the colorful building.

A free walk in exhibition that ended on June 2.

It was just a 20 meter pathway with lots of glow in the dark butterflies.  Beautiful.

Ended the day with some shopping at Coco Parks (Shop 13).  Mainland China is either cheap on electricity or they are hard core on sustainability.  The temperature in the mall is very high, barely any air conditioning.  The mall in general is very open didn't help.  Doors are left opened...

Quick bite at Shake Shack.  Similar price with Hong Kong, but at least it looks better.  It's always soggy and mushed when I get it in Hong Kong.

There is a shop call Qpokee 番茄口袋 in Coco Park selling lots of cute things.

Cute periodic table keychains...but who uses keychains nowadays?  A lot of the time, people don't even have keys now.

Wanted this spoon, but I have no idea when or why I would choose to it.

If I don't already have so many random mug and bowls, I would have gotten this instant noodle cup.
