Luke's Corner Bar - Vancouver, Canada
A new corner bar called Luke's Corner Bar opened recently and I've been itching to try it ever since. It's in my neighbourhood so I frequently walk past it.
Finally had the chance to try it the other day when a friend invited me for dinner.
My friend had a Luke's beef burger with wild mushrooms and goat cheese. It was a lot better than we'd expected. The beef was tender and the goat cheese wasn't overpowering. The yam fries were surprisingly good. They were crispy but not crunchy and thinly cut but still contained a good amount of yam. Unfortunately the fries were a little on the oily side. The dipping sauce went well with the fries but like always, it wasn't enough.
The Chili Crusted Calamari was amazing - one of the best I've had. At first glance, the portion seemed to be lacking but the container was actually quite deep, so we had a good amount of fried squid. The calamari was quite crispy (not soggy at all, as is oftentimes the case), and had a substantial amount of herbs and spices. What did it most for me however, was the avocado yogurt dip. It goes very well with the squid. The sliced jalapenos were quite tasty as well.
I had a Sirloin. The quality of the this slab of meat paled in comparison with the calamari and the burger. The meat wasn't tender enough and it was over-cooked. It wasn't anything spectacular or memorable. Just an average steak.
Despite the quality of the steak, I would recommend this restaurant to anyone isn't afraid to indulge in a night of eating without worries. The service was great and the food came in a timely manner. Luke's Corner Bar is a great place to spend an evening with your friends and family!
Luke's Corner Bar is at point G in the list "Places Part 1" on the map.
