Yolks - Vancouver, Canada
Heard of Yolks many time. A breakfast restaurant. It's quite far from where we live, so we never went as people need to line up before it opens in order to eat there. We were just too lazy to wake up at 6 or 7 to line up. Luckily, we wre passing by around 2:30pm in the afternoon and saw it still open. There were no more customers as they close at 3pm. We thought they wouldn't serve us anymore, so we turned around to leave. However, they said they could still take our order. Very lucky of us.
We didn't want to delay their time to close and rest, so we immediately order the first time we see on the menu. We got chocolate milk, chicken and waffle and egg Benedict with salmon.
Really like their cute design in the the restaurant.
Finally the food came. The portion is quite big, but everything on it was really delicious. The egg was done just right. The sauce was creamy and rich. I felt like I would get a heart attack after eating, but totally worth it.
The waffle is crispy on the outside and very soft and fluffy on the inside. I usually hate eating waffle. This is the first time I had a good waffle. As for the fried chicken, it was seasoned just right. Juicy and crispy. Eat it all together with syrup and it's heaven~
They have homemade ketchup and hot sauce on each table, which adds kick to your breakfast, but the dishes are already great on it's own.
They have absolutely wonderful service at the place. First of all, they didn't kick us out when there was only about 15 minutes until they close. They were so welcoming and let us in for their last call before they shut down the kitchen. The waitress was so nice to recommend us what to get. They were building a patio outside at the time and it was quite noisy with all the drilling. They didn't feel it was right that we had to eat with so much noise, so they put the bill on the house. Totally didn't expect that. They said the patio would be done by mid August. So, I guess they have an outdoor patio now. Would be great to be able to enjoy breakfast outside on a sunny day.
Both Jam Cafe and Yolks are popular, but I would definitely prefer Yolks over Jam Cafe.
Yolks is at point u in Places Part 3 on the map below:
