Day 5: Money Scamming Ajuma in Gwangjang Market
I have heard many stories about how ajumas force money out of tourists in Gwangjang Market. This time I went, we have finally experienced how it happens. There are so many different stalls, I am sure some of the ajumas are nice and honest and some aren't. Unfortunately, we went to one that just isn't so honest. We sat down at one of the stalls and made 1 order of sundae, gimbap and live squid. We said many many times that we only want 1 order of each. We said it in English and Korean and even use our finger to indicate we only want 1! They served us the food and afterward, the price was twice on the menu. Reason? They gave us 2 servings of each without letting us know. By the time we pay, we already ate the food and we didn't want to waste time arguing with them. So, we end up paying double of what we ordered. If I knew what a single serving looks like, I would have refused taking the plates. Anyways, we will never go back to be scammed again. Very unahappy experience. It's ok to go once, but I definitely won't go back second time to have my money forced out of me.
