Joffre Lake - BC, Canada
About an hour drive from Whistler is the Joffre lake.
The drive to the lake is already really pretty. I think the Sea to Sky highway is probably one of the prettiest highway in the world.
There is a lower lake, middle lake and upper lake in the Joffre Lake Park. This one is the lower lake which is less than a 5 minutes walk from the parking lot. It's way prettier in real life than in pictures. We just can't capture the breath taking scenery with our phone cameras. The water is a jade green color. Greener than how the pictures show it.
Just the lower lake is already this pretty. Hard to imagine what the middle and upper lake is like.
Unfortunately, I didn't make it to the middle and of course did not make it to the upper lake. It was pouring rain, we had no proper gear. Also, the hike is tough. The trail is not paved/boarded. It was just mud. Slippery steep mud road in the freezing rain.
So, we had to leave while on our way to the middle lake.
One thing to note is that the place is filled with mosquitoes. I have never seen so many mosquitoes in BC before. They are huge too and they are very very hungry mosquitoes. They won't stop even if you are moving around. Really crazy bugs.
So, we left after about 30 minutes. And once we left the Joffre Lake area, the sky cleared up. It reminds me of SFU and how it has it's own little weather/climate.
Sucks for Cho and her friend that they couldn't make it to the Upper Lake after driving for so long to get there. As for me, I wouldn't have made it even if the weather was great. The trail is not for beginners and I am worse than any usual noobs. I need a trail for toddlers or seniors in order to complete it.
Anyways, more pictures of the scenery along the road between Joffre Lake and Whistler.
We pulled over at some random place, which I wouldn't recommend. The mosquitoes were vicious! We thought we were able to get close to the river next to it. However, there were too much bushes and too many mosquitoes. Absolutely can't get through the greenery to the water here. NOT recommended to get out of the car at this point.
The last picture was taking at point f in Places Part 3 and Joffre Lake is at point e in Places Part 3 on the map below:
