Lunch at Funk & Kale in Shenzhen

Went to Shenzhen for lunch~  Don't know whether I should say spending a day in China is convenient or inconvenient.  It's convenient if you have all the necessary app to go through the day but a pain in the ass if you don't.

The part of getting to Shenzhen is fast.  Takes 30 minutes or so for me.  The problem is after getting out of the border customs and trying to get to anywhere is a hassle without their local app for payment, which requires a local bank account and local phone number to verify identity.  Shops don't accept credit card at all and for those that accept cash, they won't have any change.  Same with taxi.  Taxi drivers are not very honest as well.  Many drivers trying to get customer jacking up the fare price from 10CNY to 80CNY.

Took a walk to the Shenzhen Bay Park (See 1).

Was too hot and bored at the park and then took a taxi to The MixC 万象天地 (Shop 1).

Went to Funk & Kale (Eat 1) for lunch.  The place doesn't accept credit card and needed to be paid by WeChat pay or Alipay.  Even ordering food need be done by scanning a QR Code.  Basically all shops and restaurants works like this now.  I have no idea how foreigners can go to China and survive a day.  The staff was nice enough to accept payment in cash.  It did take them quite some time to find change though.

I was a little skeptical about eating westernized food in mainland China.  A few years back, I tried having western food in China and they were horrible.  But the pictures and the food I saw people having looked good and decided to give it a try.

It's a nice quiet cafe.

Ordered a latte and lemon tea.  The latte was good.

Then a grilled chicken nasi goreng.  It's a mixture of beans, corns and healthy grains.  To my surprise, it was awesome!  The type of food and flavors I like.

This south east Asian omelet has stir fried glass noodle and steak inside.  Taste like a very Chinese dish.  Not bad, but I prefer the nasi goreng.

Total comes to 214 RMB.  I thought people say eating in China is supposed to be cheap, feels it's just slightly cheaper than in Hong Kong.  But there is a lot more space and fusion food here taste better than many restaurants in Hong Kong....sad to say.

Went and got some bubble tea at Teametea (Eat 2).  Again, no credit card accepted...

They have the same brands of bakery in Hong Kong, but selling different stuff.

Went window shopping around the mall.  Didn't want to go outside.

Without having the preferred type of app payment in China, nothing much I could do and just headed back to Hong Kong for dinner....
