Red Star Seafood Restaurant - Richmond, Canada
I find dim sum in Vancouver is way better than in Hong Kong, which is quite the opposite you would expect. I have heard people say, dim sum in Vancouver in only better because low quality food ingredient in almost non-existent in Canada with all the regulations. Those people say food in Hong Kong should taste better as the chefs in Hong Kong has better skill. I find that not true at all. I truly and sincerely feel that not only the quality of the ingredient is higher, but also the chefs skill in Vancouver is better. At least for most of the dim sum places in Vancouver and Richmond. Not very sure about Burnaby or anything east to that. I have heard some bad comments about dim sum over to the east side.
Came to Red Star Seafood Restaurant in Richmond. Not a top notch restaurant, but it's still way better than most of the ones in Hong Kong. Seriously, dim sum in Hong Kong are not good unless you go to hotels or some other high end Chinese restaurants...
Ordered the usual. Steamed spareribs.
Shrimp rice rolls. There are many different rice rolls, but I only like the shrimp ones.
Then deep fried chicken cartilage. That sounds bad when translated to English.
Congee. Usually a must for the older generations at breakfast. My friend likes the traditional way of having congee for breakfast.
Siu mai. I like how there isn't a lot of pure fat globs in there. Why do restaurants in Hong Kong just put in fats? To lower cost?
Deep fried shrimp spring rolls. Love deep fried food.
Then deep fried tofu. Love tofu. Soft on the inside and crispy and delicate on the outside.
For the amount of food we order, breakfast came to CAD$63.80 for the 3 of us. Actually, that was too much food. We were not able to finish it....
