Grand Cafe at Grand Hyatt - Hong Kong

It's been a while since we had buffet in Hong Kong.  Got some membership discount at Grand Cafe (Eat 2) which is in Grand Hyatt Wan Chai.  To be honest, I think the hotel looks old and just not appealing.  But they have really awesome customer service.  All the staffs are very professional and well mannered to handle any situation.  Their rooms are a lot better than what you would imagine from the look of the lobby.

Unlike the lobby of the hotel that is dark and old look, Grand Cafe looks somewhat more modern.  Like that we were seated by the window....the view isn't great though, but nice to be able to see the sky and the outside after a long day of being trapped in the office.

The area for good is spread out in the restaurant.  I don't expect the quality of food to be great at a buffet, but the food here is above my expectation.  it's still not great, but at least they are all neatly organize and better than many of the crap hotel buffets serve...

Love how they separate the burrata from the tomato.  I couldn't compare them in the ratio I want, which is a ton of cheese compared to tomatoes.

Their sashimi section wasn't very attractive.  The salmon and scallop sashimi taste normal.   I like how they have seared salmon sushi.  If only the piece of rice can be smaller.

My favorite part of the Japanese section is the unlimited self serve bowl of salmon roe or ikura.  Filled the top of the mini sashimi don with ikura.

Also like how they have made to order tempura.

Didn't really enjoy their cold seafood.  Freshly cooked seafood is just a lot better than cold ones.  Never understood why people always rush to the cold seafood section at buffets.

Some Cantonese style BBQ items.

Hainanese chicken is something almost every hotel buffet serves in Hong Kong.  Again, don't understand why people like it.

Didn't like their Chinese style steamed seafood.  The crab barely had any meat.

Chinese hot dishes were OK.

Western hot dishes were also OK.  Nothing special.

The carved meat and BBQ section was pretty good.

Sad that it was just pate and not the actually liver.

The dessert section was very small.

Love their flaky pastry with green tea.

The ambience was great, service was great, love that I was surround by food.  Happy to be able to have dozen varieties of food all in one seating.
