Day 2: Fish market other than Noryangjin! Mapo Agricultural & Marine Products Market - Seoul

Other than Noryangjin, there is the Mapo Agricultural & Marine Products Market.  It's pretty close to Hongdae.  Just a few stations away taking about 15 minutes to reach from Hongdae.  It's where Hanuel Park and Homeplus are located.  I can't believe I have been there so many times and not realize there is a fish market there.  But then, I am not a big fan of fish, so even if I knew it's there, I'd probably avoid it.  We went this time mainly because we have no more places to go to and our friend with us likes fish.

This market is definitely a lot smaller than Noryangjin.  I think it's sufficiently large enough though.  It's not like we would buy from many different shops anyways.  They have all the necessaries seafood and that's all that counts.

The various stalls offer sashimi dishes as well.  But who would buy and eat like that?!?!  It's places so close to the wet floor, right next to a cut open fish.  In room temperature!!!!!  I feel I would definitely get sick after eating it.  I think it's only for people with a trained stomach.

Then there is the dried seafood section.

Then marinated seafood.  I absolutely don't understand how people can eat raw marinated seafood.  Too fishy for my taste.

Then we came to the crabs section.  You buy a crab there and they will cook it for you then take you to a restaurants within the market where you can sit down and enjoy the crab for just a service fee.  The crabs are not from Korea though.  However, we wanted to experience buying and eating the crab at a wet market, so we bought one that is imported from Russia nonetheless.

The crab itself was about 50000 won.  Full of sweet crab meat.

Even the green/yellow paste in the head was sweet.  Definitely worth the price.

So, the crab shop owner brought us to this restaurant to eat the crab we bought.  I think the service fee was 3000 won per person.

Mapo Agricultural & Marine Products Market is at point I in Places Part 4 on the map below:
