Day 2: 阿裕牛肉湯 Beef Hotpot - Tainan, Taiwan

Each time we go to Taiwan, we would eat the same type of food over and over again, which is the "stereotypical" food such as fried chicken, spicy mixed cold chicken (鹽水雞), spicy hot pot, stinky tofu etc. It was the first time we went to a local beef hotpot restaurant in Tainan call 阿裕牛肉湯.

It's the one on the left of 7-11. To be honest, I wouldn't have gone to this place if our local friend wasn't with us. First of all, it's located at a somewhat deserted part. At least it seem deserted. It's quite far from the busy part of Tainan and everything was pretty much closed around it, as you can see. The place look really local and traditional. It's such a quiet street yet there were quite a few people lining up outside for a table. It really is quite popular.

Right at the entrance is a cow statue that has huge boobs greeting us...

Inside, just next to the door, there is a huge pot of beef broth that's simmering. The soup base for the hotpot. Looking beefy and yummy.

Outside at the store front, staffs are preparing various food. They are cutting up plates after plates of beef.

That's the self serve station of rice and condiments. Rice is all you can eat. There is a bowl of special beef sauce to go with the rice. Too bad my stomach isn't big enough for 3 bowls of rice with their special sauce.

The inside is very local looking.

There are various cuts we could order. The price above shows a single serving. However, their portion is quite big. I see cow dick on it as well, but we are not that brave to eat that.

We order 1 serving of 2 different cut and 2 full plate of meat came.

I can't remember which cuts we ordered, but I'd assume they are all good.

There is a fridge filled with plates of hot pot dishes and drink and each plate only costs TW$50. So, we grabbed a bunch of dumpling, taro, tofu and imitation crab meat.

The plates are quite big for only TW$50.

The lighting isn't great, so everything look so dark. Since my camera broke, we are just taking pictures with our phone. The food looks much more appealing in real life.

We were super full. We couldn't finish our food and it was only about TW$1400 for the 3 of us! Great value to price. Really enjoyed the authentic local dinner. It was fun and delicious.
