Day 2: Ramen that can stink up the whole street - Hakata Issuo Ramen 博多一双 祗園店 - Fukuoka, Japan
We walked by this ramen shop call Hakata Issuo Ramen 博多一双 祗園店 (Eat 81) several times. Each time we pass by, there is a long line up. It is a small restaurant with only a few seats. The constant long line is not the only thing that caught my attention. What really made us curious about the place is the rotten smell coming from it. The smell is so strong that it spreads at least 50 meters away. It's a sour, rotten, garbage kind of smell.
I forgot what the price was but probably around 1000 yen or so. The rotten intensifies as we sit in the tiny shop They pretty much only serve one type of ramen. When the ramen came, it looks just like any others. The flavor of the ramen soup actually doesn't taste putrid like its smell. I can't say it's good, but not bad. It tastes ok and we finished our bowl.
It's like durian. It tastes and smells different. Some people loves them, some people hates them.
For me, I still like ramen without the smell of garbage. So, this ramen is not for me.
