Day 4: Day trip to Ainoshima Island - a cat island - Fukuoka, Japan

There is an island for cat lovers in Fukuoka.  Ainoshima Island (See 54).
The island is about an hour of commute from Hakata.  First, take the train to Shinguochuo Station then hop on a bus that takes you right to Shingu Port.  Some people likes to hop on the same bus at Fukko Daimae Station, which I won't recommend.  The bus starts at Shinguochuo Station, so a seat is guaranteed.  The bus is super tiny, if it's full will need to wait another hour for it.

Worse is that the ferry to the island is not frequent.  So, plan ahead for to make it for the ferry.

This is basically the entire bus.  So, best to hope on at it's first top.  It is 100 yen per person.  Pay as you exit.

Finally arrived at the Shingu Port and got ourselves a ticket for the ferry.

The ride from Shingu port to Ainoshima Island is only about 20 minutes.

Take a few selfies on the ferry and we were there.

Some people say it's not allowed to feed cats on the island, but I see a notice that it's ok as long as people are feeding them cat food.

Greeted by the beautiful island.

Lots of friendly cats.

There is a small restaurants.

The island isn't very big at all.  Decided to check out Ainoshima Stone Tumuli 相島積石塚群 (See 64). It's about 20 minutes walk from the port.

Need to plan your day at the island well as there are only a few ferries going back to the city.  We only stayed for an hour or so, which I think was enough.

After getting off the ferry, took the 100 yen bus and got off at the nearest train station.
