Day 1 - Linjiang / Tonghua Night Market
So is this Linjiang or Tonghua Night Market? Sign says Linjiang, but the location is also call Tonhua, As much as I think RF Hotel isn't pretty, it is very close to everything. Shopping, food and night market. It is about a 20 minutes walk to Linjiang Night Market, also call 臨江夜市 or 通化夜市 (Eat 39).
It's not super big, but has everything we needed, which is just Taiwanese food. We went on Saturday night, not too crowded. Just enough people to have the right atmosphere and not too many people so that we can freely walk around.
There are several stalls with claw machines. Tried 5 times and still couldn't get of their keychains. The Taiwanese food keychains look so cute.
There were plenty of accessories stalls. Nothing too fancy and the price isn't much cheaper than Taobao. Now that online shopping is made so convenient and cheaply priced, there really isn't any motivation for us to buy these kind of things in retail now.
Our main purpose for visiting the nigh market was definitely the food. Lots of food but only 1 stomach. Had to choose carefully what we should eat.
Really wanted to eat Taiwanese stinky and spicy tofu. Came across 雅口麻辣豆腐 Yakou Tofu (Eat 40). There was a queue outside, so it's probably not bad. To me, I haven't had any bad tasting tofu in Taiwan. All the same to me.
Stinky tofu, innards and duck blood. 3 in 1. Good.
Order spicy tofu with innards and duck blood with mild spiciness.
It came out to be SUPER spicy. I was coughing so much that I was crying and people probably thought I got covid.
Had to go for something sweet and cold to cool down my stomach. Went to Chen Q 陳Q古早味黑砂糖剉冰 台北通化夜市店 for some desserts.
Too many different things to choose from and again, only 1 stomach. Really wanted their mochi and tofu. Love how they have a set and can choose 3 toppings on the tofu.
Too many toppings to choose from. I wanted them all.
Ended up with couple of konjac jelly and pearl barley. Now that I look back, I realized there are tapioca and taro balls.
It's just a ball of warm mochi cooked in brown sugar and coated with black sesame. Very simple but I love it so much. I love carbs.
There are other skewers bbq stalls all over the place, but we were starting to get full.
But we had to make room for deep fried mushrooms. Yum.
Then there is the Guabao. A bunch of fatty meat stuffed inside a steamed bun. Saw people eating it online many times and have been wondering what it tastes like. Turns out to be quite sweet than savory. Not something I like.
Ended the night with deep fried sweet potato balls. So light and crispy on the outside and bit chewy at the same time.
No more room for other noodle and soups.
