Day 5 - Taipei - Delicious Italian food at Divino
It's really hard to tell where a good restaurant is located just by the look of the street in Taipei. In many cities around the world, the street and district is very distinct where you can just tell by the look of the area/street if it's focus in high end dining or local traditional food at bargain price. We find it hard to distinguish this in Taiwan. Thanks to a friend who recommended Divino (Eat 52) in Da'an area. They serve really delicious Italian food.
The restaurant is really small. It can only serve a few tables at a time and space is tight, but fully packed. Lots of wine to choose from on the shelf and not expensive at all. I guess the real expensive stuff would be stored at the back.
The menu is small, but enough dishes to choose from. It's pricier compared to other restaurants, but still a lot cheaper than in Hong Kong and the quality and taste is many folds better.
Beef tongue with eggplant. That was probably the most tender and beefiest tongue I've had. Pairs well with the eggplant and sauce. I wish I could have a few more plates of this.
Then there is the burrata with white anchovy. Never had a better one before. So creamy.
Seared tuna that wasn't on the menu. Also good good good.
Spaghetti red prawns bisque was our least favorite. Pasta was way beyond the al dente we know. It was practically crunchy....could have been cooked a little more. The prawns on top was delicious though. Very fresh.
NY striploin cooked perfectly, but honestly doesn't feel like 12 oz at all...does it even pass 4 oz? Or is it a typo on the menu?
Gnocchi was amazing. Love the veggie on top.
For desserts we had tiramisu and panna cotta.
Tiramisu is normal
Their pana cotta is really special. It pairs with olives. Sweet and savory at the same time. Goes surprisingly well together.
Total came to about NT$5500. I guess it's quite expensive compared to eating other things in Taiwan, but I think it's around the same amount I would need to pay in Hong Kong but for things that taste like crap. Love this place.
