Day 4 - Taichung - Heynuts Cafe 好堅果咖啡
Wanted something light for dinner since we were so full. Mainly just wanted a place to sit and rest before taking the train back to Taipei. Found Heynuts Cafe 好堅果咖啡 (Eat 49) on google and came. The place has a camping theme. Actually, the camping theme is only obvious at the entrance where they set up this cute tent.
The inside is still nice but can't really tell it's about camping.
It wasn't very late, around 7pm but there were absolutely no one. No idea how these cafes/restaurant survive. Anyways, in pictures the place look nice. It really is the same as it looks in reality as well, but it is soooo hot and stuffy. The weather didn't help. It was around 30 C that day. The cafe owner didn't turn on the air conditioner. There is no window opened. We felt like we were going to die.
There are also many rules. Like minimum spending per head, which is ok. However, the minimum spending per person can't be the average of the total bill. It needs to be the actually spending of each person. Other rules are the usuals, like no bringing outside food. They have all the rules written, making it seem like I am following some school rules.
It didn't feel any better when the waitress insisted then we must stand in a specific spot to order. We couldn't stand even 10cm away from the spot. We were trying to stand a little closer to the side of the cashier to point to the menu of what we wanted since we couldn't really read out the words on the menu. But since we needed to stand right in the front of the cashier than on the side, it was quite frustrating. We don't understand why all the persistent. We had our masks on if they were afraid of covid.
The overall experience was no good. Hot, stuffy, too many rules. One of their staff had a down jacket on. We were amazed on their heat tolerance.
We order 2 drinks and a slow cooked chicken salad. The drinks are all very sugary. They can't change their drink sugar level, even when it's not pre-mixed. They can't accept pouring less syrup into the drink .... so I just drank the top part of the soda without mixing the syrup at the bottom.
They salad is ok. Veggies are fresh, chicken is tender.
It's NT$510. Not expensive compared to Hong Kong, but we really just wanted to sit in a comfortable place with air conditioning, but we never got that....
